Egg and Spoon by Gregory Maguire: Week 1: SOL march 3

Elena lives in a starving Russian village. Then a train arrives full of possibility. It also arrives with an interesting girl named Cat. The train is stopped and the girls' lives collide. They meet an array of interesting characters consisting of the rest of Cat's family, on the way to go to a party with the Tsar, Baba Yaga: the witch of the woods, Dumb Doma (Doma mean house in Russian) Baba Yaga's house perched atop chicken legs.

I like this book but am on the fence of it. It was really interesting, but then had some boring stuff for a while so I am hoping the pace picks up. My favorite character is Baba Yaga, I think she is portrayed really well and I have grown to like her. This book Is written extremely well, it is by Gregory Maguire, the author of Wicked.

SOL March 2

The big blue creature reaches for me, takes me deeper, ever so deeper into my mess. It forces me to
use tissues until my nose is red and rough. It knocks me down and I stay down, just waiting for it to
be over. The big blue creature has me use medicine every four hours. It pushes me down deeper into the covers on my bed. It forces me to sneeze over and over.  The big blue creature is huge, to huge to be real, but he is. It storms after me in every room I go in. I try to get small, but that only makes him bigger. But the big blue creature is being fought by my blood cells. Suddenly the big blue creature shrinks down, down, down back into my body. My mom comes in and asks "How's your cold?"

SOL March 1: Rabbits and Angels

Rabbit Rabbit

These two words are supposed to give you good luck for a whole month.

But really. Is somebody watching you? Is somebody looking to see if you say it?

Does somebody want to give you good luck for a month? Who would do that?

Why do you say that?

Really, I say it all the time and yet I never get good luck. Ever. Good things happen to me, sure. But have I ever gotten a whole month of good luck? No. No way. It's honestly really weird. Rabbit Rabbit.

But then... WAIT!

You say moose moose on the second day of the month if you forget to say rabbit rabbit. Now this person is watching you for TWO whole days? What?

Who would want to watch over me? Angels? I don't believe in angels. So much wouldn't have happened to me if there were angels.

But what if my Angel  was watching over me and wanted me to learn things. I have learned  a lot. What if the angel though this was good for me.

Now I really don't know.

Well then I guess I should just say:

Rabbit Rabbit

A Long, Long Sleep By Anna Sheehan and the other stuff...

I don't have a method for picking books, but I always like books with a  great plot. I like books if they are well written, but for me that is not much of a factor in choosing what to read. I also see if the characters are relatable even if in the smallest way. Then after reading the back cover (or inside flap thing) I decide whether to read the book or not. This has not changed over the school year or, quite frankly, last year as well.

My Favorite Book:  Everest By Neal Shusterman! It is almost fantasy and digs into what happens when you die. If you want to read more about it go to my post about it! (just keep scrolling)

BOOK REVIEW:

Rose has been locked into stasis for 62 years when she awakes to a new century, with everyone she ever knew long lost because of the dark ages she knows nothing about. She is fragile and is scared for she is only 16, not including stasis time. Rose is also the soon to be owner of the UniCorp, a huge company that controls everything. But Rose is being hunted down and she doesn't know if she can escape.

This was a great book. It was very creatively written, and the reader really gets to know the characters. My favorite character was Otto. A boy whose genes were altered so know he cannot speak, and has blue skin and yellow eyes. Though he cannot speak, whenever he touches anyone he can look through there thoughts and basically think things to them. read this book!

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell (week 1)

Cath just got to college but it isn't what she expected. Her twin, Wren, is ignoring her and Cath just wants to hide in her bed and write fan-fiction about the Simon Snow series. But then Cath meets her roommate's ex-boyfriend and best friend, Levi. He has an appreciation for Cath's fan-fiction, brings her out of her shell, and wins her heart.

I really like this book. Rainbow Rowell (the author) practically had to write two different books to write this one and I respect that. Cath is a great character, but my favorite is Levi. He goes out of his way to make people feel good. Warning: alcohol, sexual thought, romance, cursing, divorce, drugs.

Read it!

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell

Eleanor has a terrible life: a dad who doesn't want her, a step dad who could kill her, and she is really poor. Until she meets Park, the boy who let her sit down next to him on the bus. They start to become closer and closer and eventually fall in love. But Eleanor doesn't know how long it can last, her mom doesn't want her to have a boyfriend and neither does her stepdad (who Eleanor thinks wants to kill everything good). She starts making up lies to go over to his house and then things get serious between them and her stepdad figures out her lies.

This was one of the best books ever, I think it is considered a classic... Park was my favorite character, he really ended up hiding his feelings about being asian really well. He also has a really interesting life. warnings: sexual thought, kissing, drugs, and alcohol.
